iPhone 3G Still Hard to Find

This is an obvious reality for those of us still looking for the new iPhone 3G, but I thought I would mention it anyway. My wife and I waited for 3 1/2 hours on Friday to try and get the iPhone only to find out that the manager had lied to us (saying that there were plenty of iPhones for everyone in line) and all we could do is purchase the phone so that we would get it as soon as it was available. In retrospect it would have been very beneficial to simply wait at an Apple store or just have gotten to the store a little earlier. I do not have to worry about getting an iPhone now, but I also have no idea when I will get it. The manager had also said a day or two and they would have more, but in fact it has been a week now and they have not called. AT&T and Apple have disappointed greatly this time around. Really, if AT&T had just been honest with us when we were waiting I would not have been upset. AT&T is now one of my least favorite companies, but yet I am still going to sign my life's savings away to them. Frustration.

As soon as I get the iPhone I will probably give a review and what not on it, but there are so many reviews out there already that it doesn't seem like there is much of a point. Possibly more of a day to day application of the iPhone in action would be more useful.

I share your pain. I went over to my local apple store back on the 11th when they came out. I went in the evening, waited in line for just over an hour (which i was more than happy to do) only to find out that Apple couldn't sell me a phone. See, I am on a familytalk plan, and using the upgrade from another line for the 199 price - no problem at all for AT&T. But, since AT&T forced Apple to activate all phones in-store, but allowed Apple virtually no access to customers' account information, there was no way for Apple to transfer the upgrade. I figured this out only after calling AT&T four times (and being hung up on twice, and denied service one of the times despite having the correct ssn) and talking to 5 different employees at the apple store, none of which knew anything. In the end I just wasted over 2 hours of my time, and Apple offered no consolation for the fact that they handed me a brand new iPhone, then just as quickly took it away - they only offered the advice 'you should go to an AT&T store'

So, after much pouting and a few obscenities, i did just that the next day. Of course there were none in stock at the AT&T store (not that I expected there to be) but I put my name in the list to wait for a sales rep and then stood around for a good half hour waiting. After making the rep assure me several times that the upgrade would transfer seamlessly, and wouldn't affect my sister's line, who was in Europe at the time, I ordered the phone on 'direct fulfillment'. 9 days later, I finally had a brand new iPhone 3G in my hands. Was it as satisfying as getting one in a sporty Apple iPhone tote bag (which i really wanted!) from the much more stylish apple store, after waiting anxiously for hours in line with others, on the day it came out? Probably not, but I still got the phone!!! I love it more and more every day.

And I still hate AT&T more and more every day. Douche bags...
